This event is co-hosted with Philanthropy Massachusetts as part of their Power and Equity series.

Trust-Based Philanthropy is being embraced by a growing number of foundations as a way to reduce unnecessary burdens on nonprofit partners and alleviate power imbalances between funders and grantees. Driven by core values of power-sharing and working for systemic equity, a trust-based approach encourages multi-year unrestricted funding, streamlined reporting, and transparent and responsive communication.

In this session, moderated by Shaady Salehi of the Trust-Based Philanthropy Project, participants will hear from Dimple Abichandani, Executive Director of the General Service Foundation and Don Matteson, Chief Program Officer of the Peter and Elizabeth Tower Foundation. Together, our speakers will discuss the fundamental values and behaviors that undergird a trust-based approach, what it looks like to make changes toward fully embodying the six principles of trust-based philanthropy, and the internal work required to build trust between the staff, leadership, and board.

Participants will learn about how foundations and grantees both benefit from a trust-based approach and will have a chance to consider some practical next steps to jumpstart or deepen their own trust-based journeys.

This event is part of the Power and Equity series of programming at Philanthropy Massachusetts. More information and registration here.
