How to Inspire Youth Giving

Explore how you can inspire youth to share their time, talent, and treasure within your communities. This webinar features Jerry Finn of the Horseshoe Foundation of Floyd County and Eric Hessel of Hendricks County Community Foundation. These two knowledgeable professionals have years of experience as community grantmakers, youth philanthropy advocates, and as a former youth philanthropist. Participants will find out how to inspire personal youth giving, learn group consensus activities, and hear about impactful youth grantmaking.  

Presenters:

Eric Hessel, Program Officer, Hendricks County Community Foundation

Eric earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Politics from New York University.  Previous to working with the Hendricks County Community Foundation, Eric worked for art therapy nonprofit Portraits of Hope in New York City, the Easter Seals of Central Texas, and the US Census Bureau in Austin, Texas. Upon returning to Indianapolis, Eric began working at the Community Foundation where he had volunteered as a young philanthropist in high school. Eric is a member of the Hendricks County Junto, a young professionals group; a Co-Chair of the YPII Partner Network; and is an adult mentor for the Youth Leadership Hendricks County program.

Jerry Finn, Executive Director, Horseshoe Foundation of Floyd County

Jerry holds two undergraduate degrees from Indiana University and a Masters in Theological Studies from the St. Meinrad School of Theology.  In addition to his role at Horseshoe Foundation, he serves on the Governor’s Bi-State Bridge Authority for Louisville and Indiana, the Southern Indiana Mentoring Partnership, and is a member of the One Southern Indiana Board of Directors, Metro United Way Advisory Council, Kentuckiana Donors Forum, and a member of the Rotary Club of New Albany.  Jerry has served as President and founding member of the New Albany-Floyd County Education Foundation, Vice President of Keep New Albany Clean and Green, a trainer for the Youth Philanthropy Initiative of Indiana, and as a medical corpsman in the Indiana National Guard and an officer in the US Army Reserve. Jerry is the volunteer fundraiser for the restoration of the Town Clock Church and has mentored three students in the NAFC School system for four years.
