Addressing the Complexities of Poverty: A Case Study of Collaboration

Multi-sector collaboration presents exciting possibilities. Learn about the public-private-philanthropic partnership that built a new manufacturing facility on Indy’s northeast side. The $15 million facility, which seeks to employ up to 200 area residents, is owned by Central Indiana Community Foundation, operated by Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana, and produces medical devices for Cook Medical. The employees work for Goodwill, which provides wraparound services such as mental and physical health support, substance use support, soft skills training, and housing stabilization for those in need. A new Eskenazi Health facility is being erected next door, providing services for low-income citizens. Plus, an on-site grocery store helps the food-insecure neighborhood. A study from IU’s Public Policy Institute estimated the plant would have annual economic impact of nearly $26 million for Marion County.
