Legacy Foundation hires two staff for community outreach and development initiatives
Legacy Foundation announces the hiring of Bushra H. Rehman as Community Development Director and Maranda Fishback as Community Engagement Coordinator.
Rehman, who has 19 years in academic and association management, joins Legacy Foundation to establish and lead a community development corporation for Lake County, Indiana.
“Bushra joins us at an exciting time as the foundation aims to build on its Neighborhood Spotlight program. Her strong background in financial management, organizational governance and communications will be instrumental in bringing on new partners and laying the groundwork for Lake County’s Community Development Corporation,” said Legacy Foundation President Carolyn Saxton.
Before joining Legacy Foundation, Rehman was Executive Director of the Association for Clinical and Translational Science at SmithBucklin Corporation. Prior to her work at SmithBucklin Corporation, Rehman served as the Administrative Director of the Institute for Translational Medicine and the Clinical Resources Center at The University of Chicago. Rehman earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at Adrian College, and her Master of Public Administration at the University of Michigan.
Fishback previously served as an intern with the Legacy Foundation through the Lilly Endowment GIFT Internship Program, a grant program funded by Lilly Endowment to give college students internship opportunities at Indiana community foundations.
During her time at the foundation, Fishback helped coordinate and execute Legacy’s key events: its annual meeting, scholarship dinner, and Civic Innovators Convening. She grew the foundation’s social media presence through creative online challenges. Fishback started the foundation’s youth philanthropy initiative, named Lake County Teen Action Group, to encourage high school age students to get involved with local nonprofit organizations and learn about responsible grant-making.
In her new role, Fishback will manage three Legacy programs: the Lake County Teen Action Group, RiseNWI, and On the Table. RiseNWI empowers Northwest Indiana residents to become active participants in local government. On the Table is a national initiative funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to build connections within communities through mealtime conversations.
“We are thrilled to welcome Maranda as a full-time staff member. Her work carries forward our mission of building a culture of philanthropy at all ages and connecting people to their communities,” Saxton said.
Fishback earned her Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Purdue University Northwest. She will graduate from Purdue University Northwest in May 2018 with a Master of Business Administration.
