Arts Commission announces grant awards to community-based cultural providers

Indianapolis, IN - The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) announced that more than 400 community-based arts providers and individual artists throughout Indiana will receive grants for Fiscal Year 2018.

During its June 16, 2017, Quarterly Business Meeting in Indianapolis, the Commission approved funding recommendations for Arts Organizations Support (AOS I; AOS II; AOS III); Arts Project Support (APS); Regional Arts Partner Block Grants to sub-grantees; and Regional Arts Partner Organization and Project Support grants.

The Commission approved grant allocations totaling more than $3.03 million in state and federal funds for grants and programs provided by arts organizations and cultural providers throughout the state, including grants to individual artists.

The majority of the grants approved by the Commission, totaling more than $2.29 million, will be distributed through the IAC's 11 regions to small and mid-sized organizations.

Among these grants are AOS-I organizations including Books, Brushes & Bands for Education ($5,834); Heartland Artists ($4,867); Fort Wayne Youth Theatre ($7,779); Montgomery County Cultural Foundation ($6,053); Art Association of Randolph County ($5,893); Art Spaces - Wabash Valley Outdoor Sculpture Collection ($7,779); Asante Children's Theatre ($7,360); Shawnee Theatre of Greene County ($6,807); Southern Indiana Center for the Arts ($7,356); Evansville Civic Theatre ($7,779); and Carnegie Center for Art and History ($6,807). A total of $612,221 was awarded to AOS-I organizations.

AOS-II funded organizations include: Northwest Indiana Symphony Society ($18,476); South Bend Museum of Art ($15,776); Unity Performing Arts Foundation ($12,641); Civic Theater of Greater Lafayette ($10,724); Richmond Symphony Orchestra ($9,783); Sheldon Swope Art Museum ($9,724); ArtMix, Inc. ($9,305); Lotus Education & Arts Foundation ($9,724); Columbus Pro-Musica ($13,959); and City of Jasper Arts Department ($12,641). AOS-II organizations receive a total of $965,678.

Among APS grants awarded are Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Indiana ($4,400); Yellowstone Trail Fest ($2,500); Indiana Center for Middle East Peace ($4,000); Monticello-Union Township Public Library ($3,177); Hagerstown Nettle Creek Players ($5,000); Terre Haute Children's Choir ($3,960); Shelby Arts Alliance ($4,095);  Area 10 Council on Aging ($4,550); Switzerland County Historical Society ($5,000); The Arc of Evansville ($4,251); and Jeffersonville Arts Alliance ($3,000). APS organizations received a total of $692,789.

Organizations such as Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra ($34,632); Evansville Museum or Arts, History & Science ($34,632); Indianapolis Museum of Art ($38,376); and Music for All, Indianapolis ($36.504) are among 17 organizations receiving direct grants from the IAC funded through the AOS-III category. Total funding for these organizations is $573,2080.
