(Madison, Indiana) The inaugural course for the Leadership Jefferson County program concluded on May 16, 2018. A luncheon was held to recognize the 15 inaugural participants, with help from the event’s sponsor Grote Industries. Leadership Jefferson County is an action project that evolved from Envision Jefferson County. The program is now housed at the Community Foundation of Madison & Jefferson County.

“We were excited to have a very diverse group of participants,” said Marta Belt, Leadership Jefferson County Steering Committee Chair. “We had many different occupations, backgrounds, and talents represented in our class.” The Leadership Jefferson County course consisted of 10 bi-weekly sessions. These sessions gave the participants a better understanding of resources and relationships within Jefferson County. Session topics included: Government Agencies & Organizations, Nonprofits & Volunteerism, Education, Healthcare, Social Services, Business & Industry, Tourism, History, and Leadership Strengths & Styles. Throughout the course, community members and topic experts were invited to speak and share their insights.

“Leadership Jefferson County was nothing short of life changing,” said Class of 2018 member Chris Mattern. “I came into the program wanting to learn how to be more involved in the community and I left not only involved, but motivated to be a part of positive change and growth in Jefferson County.” Other members of the Class of 2018 included: Brooke Canter, Indiana-Kentucky Electric Corporation; David Harden, Hanover College; Missy Holt, King’s Daughters’ Health; Cheryl Kersey, Kersey & Kersey Architects; Erin Lawrence, River Valley Resources; Mattern, Madison Precision Products; Sue Melton, Centerstone; Jenny Moss, Hanover College; Victoria Perry, Madison Main Street Program; Brandi Poling, Lide White Memorial Boys & Girls Club; Rosie Rohmann, WorkOne; Melissa Shelton, German American Bank; Doug Spiller, Vehicle Service Group; Shannon Tilley, Ivy Tech Community College-Madison; and Stephanie Withered, MainSource Bank.
