Josh Medvescek Named 2025 Lionel Dubay Youth Sports Award Recipient
Josh Medvescek of Zionsville has been named the 2025 recipient of the Lionel Dubay Youth Sports Award for his decades-long dedication to coaching and mentoring local youth across multiple sports.
The Community Foundation of Boone County is proud to announce Josh Medvescek of Zionsville as the recipient of the 2025 Lionel Dubay Youth Sports Award. This annual honor recognizes an individual who has made an ongoing commitment to Zionsville youth sports - values shared by the late Lionel Dubay. Dubay was a vital parent & supporter of youth sports in Zionsville. The award was established in 1993 by Dubay‘s wife Gwen, his friends, and community donations to continue his legacy.
A dedicated coach, mentor, and advocate for young athletes, Medvescek’s influence spans multiple sports - football, wrestling, baseball, and soccer - touching thousands of lives over the past two decades. His service goes beyond the sidelines, with roles as a coach, board member, board president, IHSAA official, rules interpreter, certified clinician, and middle and high school referee assigner.
As one nominator said, “Josh has impacted countless athletes’ lives in Zionsville, both directly and indirectly. Josh’s dedication towards youth athletics is so appreciated, as there are very few individuals who put in more time and energy into a multitude of sports the way Josh does. He has a pulse on sports at the very foundational level all the way through the high school level, making him a great conduit for coaches, parents, administrators and student-athletes. We are grateful to have Josh in our community!”
In recognition of this award, Medvescek has directed the accompanying $500 grant to the Zionsville Baseball Club (ZBC).
The ZBC provides travel baseball opportunities to players ages 7-14 who reside in the Zionsville Community School Corporation district. The organization is dedicated to “feeding” Zionsville’s high school baseball program with well-prepared players by identifying and providing a high level of skill development and competition to Zionsville’s top baseball prospects. In the process, they strive to foster individual growth so that each player reaches his full potential as a baseball player within the confines of the team concept.
“Josh is the definition of servant leadership,” said Julie Reagan, CFBC CEO. “For over 25 years, he has invested his time, skills, and heart into helping young athletes grow - not just as players, but as people. His dedication reflects the very spirit of the Lionel Dubay Youth Sports Award, and we are honored to recognize him this year.”
