Plenary Featuring Carrie Avery, The Role of Trust in Philanthropy

The root meaning of philanthropy literally translates to “love of humanity.” But how often do practitioners in philanthropy take a moment to truly recognize and embrace the role of love, trust, and relationships in the work that we do every day? In this fireside chat-style keynote presentation, we’ll hear from Carrie Avery, president and trustee of the Durfee Foundation and Steering committee member of the Trust-Based Philanthropy Project, as she invites us to consider these questions: 1) How can a trust-based approach bring us closer to the purpose behind our work?; 2) How can it bring more joy and genuine learning to our work?; 3) What opportunities does this open up for our sector, and for society as a whole?; 4) What are we learning about the impact of a trust-based approach during the extreme disruption of the Covid crisis?

This session will be immediately followed by a panel discussion featuring three Indiana-based funders as they share more about how they’re working on prioritizing trust and relationships in their work.
