About This Legislative Session
In response to Governor Mike Braun’s call for a special session, the Indiana General Assembly will meet from December 1–12, 2025, launching the 2026 session one month earlier than usual.
Rather than convening separately in November and January, lawmakers will merge both the Organization Day and early legislative business into a single December session. This adjustment is designed to streamline operations and reduce costs.
The shift allows legislators to address what they are calling “time-sensitive issues,” including:
- Redistricting of Indiana’s congressional boundaries
- Tax code conformity to align with federal changes ahead of the 2026 filing season
- Potential budget adjustments tied to 2025 property tax legislation (SEA 1)
While the full implications of this schedule shift remain to be seen, both legislative chambers have suggested that the session may conclude as early as February 27, trimming the typical calendar to balance time and cost.
