Communities are stronger when residents are connected, engaged, and empowered to shape their shared future. This session will introduce the Community Heart & Soul® model—a proven, resident-driven approach that helps communities uncover what matters most, build common ground, and take collective action. Participants will also explore Demographics at the Door, a practical tool for identifying who is participating in community conversations and who may be missing.

What you’ll take away:

  • Insight into the tangible advantages of connected communities.
  • Understanding of how asset-based engagement helps residents bridge divides and find common purpose.
  • Knowledge of the three guiding principles of the Community Heart & Soul® model and how they lay the foundation for resident-driven change.
  • Introduction to Demographics at the Door as a tool for inclusive engagement.
  • Inspiration and lessons from Cedar Lake’s Indiana-based Heart & Soul initiative.

Who should attend:

  • Funders and community leaders interested in strengthening resident engagement.
  • Practitioners and local officials exploring practical tools for inclusive community building.
  • Anyone seeking proven approaches to elevate local voices and foster stronger, more connected communities.
