Join IPA and the Urban Institute for an interactive webinar focused on using data to improve economic mobility in your community.

In this session, experts from the Urban Institute will introduce how to use the Upward Mobility Framework and Mobility Metrics and demonstrate how to use the new Upward Mobility Data Dashboard. You will learn how local data can help identify challenges, measure progress, and guide action to boost mobility from poverty.

You will also engage in an interactive discussion and explore real-world case studies of communities who are using Urban Institute’s tools and data to increase upward mobility.

About the Upward Mobility Initiative from the Urban Institute: We provide local leaders with data, tools, and guidance to help move people out of poverty and to close equity gaps in communities. Led by our training and technical assistance experts, our Upward Mobility Workshop series will show you how to begin leveraging the Upward Mobility Framework to create pathways to economic success, ensure all community members are valued and included, and individuals have the power and autonomy to shape their own futures.

 

Speakers

Jesús Guzmán is a policy program associate in the Research to Action Lab at the Urban Institute, where he works to create an economy that is inclusive, sustainable, and just. For more than 10 years, Guzmán has designed and implemented local programs and advocated for large-scale policy solutions to improve economic outcomes for Latinos, immigrants, and communities of color. Previously, at Corazón Healdsburg, he worked with community partners in building a county-wide coalition to launch a guaranteed basic income pilot serving low-income families with young children. Previously, Guzmán managed the research and data initiatives for the Alliance for Boys and Men of Color at PolicyLink to advance race and gender justice by transforming systems. Guzmán began as a community organizer working with day laborers and domestic workers to build power and center dignity in the workplace. Guzmán holds a master’s degree in public policy from the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley, and is earning his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Alexis Weaver is a policy program manager at the Urban Institute where she manages policy projects and provides technical assistance to local leaders and national networks working on community-based efforts to advance mobility from poverty through the Upward Mobility Initiative. As program manager for the Disability Equity Policy Initiative, she leads strategic efforts to build a body of evidence to improve the lives of disabled people. Weaver has two decades of experience working within the nonprofit sector to increase capacity for communities to effectively address poverty, focusing on trauma-informed approaches to program delivery and stakeholder-led decisionmaking. Her expertise spans program development, implementation, and management across a various policy areas. Weaver has a bachelor’s degree in economics and environmental studies from Baylor University and a master’s degree in community and regional planning from the University of Texas. She is a city council member for a small suburban city in the Atlanta metropolitan region.
