Communities thrive when the people who live, work, and play in them are connected, engaged, and empowered to shape their shared future.

This session introduces the Community Heart & Soul® model—a proven, resident‑driven approach that helps communities uncover what matters most, build common ground, and take collective action. Participants will take part in the Who Lives, Works, Plays asset‑mapping activity to better understand the full spectrum of community voices and strengths. The session will also explore Demographics at the Door, a practical tool for recognizing who is participating in community conversations—and who may be missing—so engagement efforts can be more inclusive and effective.

What You’ll Take Away

  • A deeper appreciation for the tangible benefits of connected, relationship‑centered communities.
  • An understanding of how asset‑based engagement, including the Who Lives, Works, Plays activity, helps residents bridge divides and discover shared purpose.
  • Knowledge of the three guiding principles of the Community Heart & Soul® model and how they create the foundation for resident‑driven change.
