100 Women Who Care Elkhart County give to Hearts United for Bristol
Sarah Farris, Life Resources Coordinator at Hearts United for Bristol, attended her first 100 Women Who Care meeting in October and left with a $10,000 grant.
Farris nominated Hearts United for Bristol (The Hub), not expecting to get chosen. Farris quickly prepared a speech to present and gained the majority vote following her presentation. She was surprised and honored to win and knew how big of an impact this would have on the Hub. “I still can’t believe that my short presentation to a group of women will make such a difference to an organization I am so deeply involved in,” said Farris.
The Hub, formerly the Bristol Community Food Pantry, has been around for 20-plus years but launched under the new name in 2022. The Hub primarily serves the Bristol community, though those from out of the area can receive supplies once on a limited basis. The organization provides basic pantry needs and toiletries to individuals and families. The Hub also offers a variety of life resources, including resume writing, interview practice, and financial assistance tools, and it refers them to other community resources to help get them the support they need.
The Hub said this money will greatly help individuals and families this upcoming holiday season. “We're having a record number of people coming through the food pantry, so being able to apply the money to the needs of the food pantry or towards life resources will be a huge help to us and so many others,” said Farris. With the upcoming holiday season, the Hub is seeking volunteer support, food donations or by participating in their adopt-a-family program. All these ways to help can be found on their website.
Farris and the entire Hub team expressed immense gratitude and gathered a large group for their check presentation. Members from 100 Women were excited to give the check to this group for the first time and to know this money would help so many in Bristol’s community.
The next 100 Women Who Care Elkhart County meeting is at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, at Matterhorn Conference Center, 2041 Cassopolis St., Elkhart.
