Senator Randy Head and Lilly Endowment Inc. Receive Awards at IPA Statewide Conference

Senator Randy Head (R, Logansport) and Lilly Endowment Inc. were among those recognized during the Indiana Philanthropy Alliance Statewide Conference on June 11 and 12. Senator Head was named 2014 Public Policy Champion of Philanthropy. Over the past ten years, the senator has served on the Cass County Community Foundation's board of directors. He has been a supporter of public policy that encourages and promotes philanthropy in Indiana. Most recently, he authored a resolution honoring the centennial anniversary of the community foundation movement in this country, which was unanimously adopted by the Indiana Senate on February 24, 2014.

Lilly Endowment Inc. was recognized for its visionary leadership in developing the community foundation field in Indiana. Through the Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT) initiative, the Endowment has provided over two decades of commitment and support to the network of community foundations that now covers every county in the state, with a combined $2.6 billion in managed assets and annual grants of more than $120 million.

Barbara A. Young, President of the Porter County Community Foundation, received the Hazelett Award for Leadership in Grantmaking. The Hazelett Award recognizes a leader who embodies the spirit of philanthropy displayed by the late Susie Hazelett – someone who demonstrates integrity, creativity, the highest professional standards and a giving spirit, displayed by mentoring and nurturing professional development in others.

Jaime Toppe, Executive Director of the Scott County Community Foundation, received the Spirit of Youth Philanthropy Award. Presented by the Youth Philanthropy Initiative of Indiana, this award recognizes a leader who has actively embraced and incorporated the core concepts of youth philanthropy into her organization and community.
