Permanent IRA Rollover Bill Introduced in House

Wednesday, May 21, 2014

Rep. Aaron Schock (R-IL) and Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) recently introduced H.R. 4619, a bill that would permanently extend the IRA charitable rollover provision. The bill would make permanent a temporary tax provision that has offered American taxpayers ages 70 ½ and older the ability to donate up to $100,000 from their IRAs and Roth IRAs without having to treat the withdrawals as taxable income. The provision was previously extended for 2012 and 2013 as part of the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012. Rep. Todd Young (R-IN) has signed on as a co-sponsor as of this writing. H.R. 4619 is consistent with IPA’s approved public policy positions so we are sending letters to the rest of Indiana’s House members to request that they also consider co-sponsoring the bill.  Please consider contacting your House Representative to ask them to sign on as a co-sponsor. You can find contact information for your member of Congress at: iga.in.gov/legislative/2014/legislators. A sample template letter is below.

Rep. Susan Brooks (R-IN) has also signed on as a cosponsor of the legislation.
