Partnering with Second Helpings to Feed Hungry Hoosiers

Starting March 31, The Alexander Hotel, located in Buckingham’s CityWay neighborhood in downtown Indianapolis, will serve as a Satellite Kitchen for Second Helpings. The Alexander’s food service team will prepare additional meals needed to feed those in need during the COVID-19 Crisis. Second Helpings’ Satellite Kitchens leverage the unused capacity in the local hospitality industry to provide prepared, eat-at-home meals for homebound low-income seniors and families who are struggling during this challenging time.

Initially, for three days a week, The Alexander and Buckingham Foundation will provide 250 meals to senior citizens at Fletcher Place. In keeping with its mission to support the arts community and impact childhood hunger, Buckingham Foundation will also distribute an additional 50 meals per day to local artists and families of essential workers. They expect to expand their capacity to serve more meals soon.

“We wanted to find a tangible and meaningful way to support the community right now, and we are honored to do our part in Second Helpings’ initiative to serve the hungry in Indianapolis,” said Theresa Rhodes, executive director of Buckingham Foundation. “It’s exciting to see the creativity between business and service agencies right now. We are doing several things to give back under the banner of ‘Buckingham Cares.’ We will continue to roll out additional initiatives in the coming days and weeks to bring light in what can feel like a very dark time for many.”
