Sen. David Long named Public Policy Champion; philanthropic leaders receive awards for service
Indianapolis, IND —Senator David Long (R-Ft. Wayne, IN) was among those recognized as outstanding leaders in philanthropy during the Indiana Philanthropy Alliance (IPA) conference on June 7-8, attended by over 300 private, public, and community foundation leaders and others connected to the field in Indiana. Sen. Long received the 2018 Public Policy Champion of Philanthropy award in recognition of his outstanding support of the important role that philanthropy plays in Indiana;. Betsy Bikoff, Betsy Bikoff Consulting, was the recipient of the Hazelett Award for Leadership in Grantmaking; and Margarita White, program director at the Community Foundation of Noble County, was given the Spirit of Youth Philanthropy Award.
In his role as a state senator, Sen. Long has actively supported philanthropy by encouraging his fellow legislators to improve their awareness and understanding of the role that foundations play in helping to address issues facing Indiana and its’ residents. As President Pro Tempore, Senator Long supported numerous pieces of legislation being considered by the Indiana General Assembly which helped enhance the state’s environment for philanthropy.
Betsy Bikoff, Betsy Bikoff Consulting, was named the recipient of the 2018 Hazelett Award for Leadership in Grantmaking. For the last 20 years, Bikoff has served the philanthropic community through her key roles as vice president and chief grantmaking officer for the Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation; board member with United Way of Central Indiana; and as a consultant assisting both grantmakers and grantseekers, contributing to a stronger, more vibrant nonprofit community. She has also served as a mentor for young women as they navigate their professional careers.
Margarita White, program director at the Community Foundation of Noble County, received the Spirit of Youth Philanthropy Award for her outstanding leadership and support of youth engagement in philanthropy in Noble County. Margarita supports P.U.L.S.E (Philanthropists Utilizing Life-Long Service and Education), a student-led philanthropy group; and works with fourth graders as well as students in 8th - 12th grades on philanthropy and leadership development. She has provided mentoring experiences with local nonprofit boards through Teens on Boards in Noble County.
