Jessie L. and Arlie L. Fogal Scholarship application available

Wednesday, April 25, 2018

Students attending a qualified medical or dental school can apply for the Jessie L. and Arlie L. Fogal Scholarship through the Harrison County Community Foundation (HCCF).

The online scholarship application is available at hccfindiana.org in the Nontraditional Scholarships tab. To be considered, applications must be submitted by Friday, June 15 at 4 p.m.

To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be seeking an advanced degree in medicine and/or dentistry (MD, DMD, DDS) and must have maintained at least a B+ average in high school. Preference will be given to applicants who have financial need and a willingness to return to Harrison County to practice their profession.

Applicants must have been Harrison County residents at the time of their high school graduation. The scholarship is renewable for up to six years of study.

The scholarship was originally established by Arlie L. Fogal, a lifelong resident of Harrison County, in the early 1970s. Although he and his wife Jessie never had children, Fogal stated in his will, “I have come to feel that all of the young people in Harrison County, and many not now so young, are about the same as my children.”  As a former educator, Fogal wanted to encourage young Harrison County residents to dream big, work hard and give back to their community.
