Three HCCF grants awarded to nonprofits in March and April
In the past two months, the Harrison County Community Foundation (HCCF) awarded three grants to Harrison County organizations. The total amount awarded was $30,668, which was made possible as a result of the generous support from community donors and Horseshoe Southern Indiana.
Lanesville Community School Corporation was awarded $19,668 in March to expand and renovate the Lanesville Elementary School playground. The school created a GoFundMe account (https://www.gofundme.com/we-play-lanesville-playground-proj) to raise the remaining needed funds.
“By expanding the Lanesville Elementary School playground to include an area for intermediate grades, we are giving our older students opportunity to expand life changing habits of cardio exercise and upper body strengthening,” Martha Beckort, Media Specialist at Lanesville Community School Corporation, said. “Lanesville is grateful for HCCF’s grant in expanding and renovating our playground area.”
In April, Main Street Corydon received $6,000 from funds HCCF had already committed for Corydon’s Stellar projects. As a result, Main Street Corydon is able to bring the Unni Boksasp Ensemble, a musical group from Norway, to Harrison County as part of Arts Midwest World Fest. The ensemble is conducting workshops at Corydon, Lanesville, North Harrison and South Central schools the week of April 16, and a public performance will be held on Saturday, April 21 at Corydon Central High School from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
“Without the support of the Harrison County Community Foundation, we would not have the funds to cover the cost to bring the Unni Boksasp Ensemble to our community,” Angel Frizzell, Executive Director of Main Street Corydon, said. “Nearly 4,000 children will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the culture and music from another region of our world. The support of our foundation will bring smiles, laughter and joy to our children. For many, the experience will bring dreams and drive for new adventures in their future.”
Also, the Kiwanis Club of Historic Harrison County was awarded $5,000 in April. The grant will enable the organization to hold its annual community fireworks display in Corydon to celebrate Independence Day.
All nonprofit agencies serving Harrison County residents may apply for grants anytime throughout the year, with no deadlines. Nonprofits must have at least one current board member complete a HCCF-approved nonprofit board governance training program before applying for funding. The 2018 online grant application is available at hccfindiana.org.
To date, HCCF has awarded more than more than $101 million in grants, scholarships and other support to Harrison County nonprofits and residents.
