In December, Personal Counseling Service Inc. (PCS) received a grant from the Harrison County Community Foundation (HCCF). The grant, which was approved by the HCCF Board of Directors during the December board meeting, was possible as a result of the generous support from community donors and Horseshoe Southern Indiana.

PCS was awarded $17,500 to provide direct counseling services to underinsured clients in Harrison County through a collaboration with Counsel House. With this collaboration, underinsured Harrison County residents will have better access to needed mental health services at two locations. PCS currently receives referrals for Harrison County residents from Lifespring, community health centers, Wellstone Regional Hospital, primary and secondary schools, parents and families, workplaces and others.

“This grant will enable us to be able to serve more Harrison County residents who are uninsured or underinsured,” Doug Drake, President and CEO of PCS, said. “Without that, there would be nowhere else they could go to get the services they need. There would be fewer people we would be able to serve from Harrison County.”

All nonprofit agencies serving Harrison County residents are eligible to apply for grants anytime throughout the year, with no deadlines. The 2018 online grant application is available at www.hccfindiana.org. A nonprofit must have at least one current board member complete a HCCF-approved nonprofit board governance training program before applying for funding.

To date, HCCF has awarded more than $89 million to a variety of programs, projects and agencies serving Harrison County.
