Wayne County Foundation to present prestigious awards and scholarships
On May 17, the Wayne County Foundation will review their year, say goodbye to two board members, welcome two new board members, and honor four community members at their Annual Celebration and Report to the Community.
George Schmid will be recognized with the Charles A. Rodefeld Award for Leadership in Philanthropy and the Community. The award honors the Foundation’s founder, Charles Rodefeld, a person who moved quietly but steadily to help meet community needs. The Rodefeld Award recognizes Wayne County citizens and/or companies who have been there when agencies or organizations most needed them, who served faithfully and well, though without fanfare, and who have provided leadership and significant financial support over the years.
Margurite Clark will receive the Ruth J. Wickemeyer Award for Community Service which was named for the Foundation’s first staff person and which recognizes paid or volunteer not-for-profit leaders who personify exceptional service to others in the name of community progress. Ruth is perhaps best remembered for maintaining the highest ethical standards and expressing true appreciation for even the smallest contributions and those selected for this award also exhibit those qualities.
Additionally, the Foundation will recognize the 2018 Lilly Endowment Community Scholars – Taylor Brown, daughter of David and Stacy Brown, a senior at Richmond High School and Logan Harmeyer, son of Mark and Andrea Harmeyer, a senior at Lincoln High School.
