Starke County Community Foundation Receives 10-percent of their Match Goal
The Starke County Community Foundation is excited to announce a generous $35,000 donation from Jerry Scherf. This gift to his community fund will have triple the impact thanks to a matching grant from Lilly Endowment Inc., bringing the total contribution to $105,000.
Jerry Scherf, a lifelong community advocate, has a deep commitment to supporting local students, families, and community projects in his hometown. Through the establishment of The Jerry Scherf Community Fund, he has continuously dedicated resources to benefit future generations.
This matching opportunity from Lilly Endowment Inc. amplifies Jerry’s legacy and ensures that his vision for community advancement will endure. The combined $105,000 funds will be dedicated to community projects and educational initiatives, fulfilling Jerry's commitment to building a brighter future for Starke County.
Director of Development Jacque Ryan shared her gratitude on behalf of SCCF, “We’re extremely grateful to Jerry Scherf for his continued support of the Starke County Community Foundation with this latest contribution to his community fund. He was recognized for his altruistic spirit during last year’s Giving Tuesday event when he received the Hardesty Leadership in Philanthropy Award.”
Director Ryan went on to say, “Scherf is the latest donor to join the ‘10%ers Club’, meaning his gift of $35,000 covers 10% of our overall goal to reach $350,000 in community fund contributions by the end of 2025 through the SCCF Community Fund Matching Campaign.” She continued, “When we meet that goal, we’ll be able to increase our granting capacity by over $1 million thanks to the Lilly Endowment’s matching dollars. That additional funding will help us make more impactful grants to address needs all across the county.”
