(Muncie, Indiana) The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. is awarding $300 to the Liberty Perry Alumni Association and $200 to Liberty Perry School Corporation from the Liberty Perry Selma Town Endowment Fund.

With this funding the Alumni Association will install a sign to mark the location of Selma High School, which opened in 1904 and operated until the consolidation of Selma High School and Center High School into Wapahani High School. The building was torn down in 1980. In addition to marking the location of Selma High School, the sign will provide a brief history of the school to celebrate the approximately 1,568 Selma “Bluebirds” who graduated from the school.

Additionally, Liberty Perry School Corporation will use their grant to support a program that introduces Selma Elementary students to fruits and vegetables that coordinate with each letter of the alphabet – one each week during the school year.

The Liberty Perry Selma Town Endowment Fund started as an Acorn Fund with a small initial investment and then grew to a mighty oak with the help of local residents and a match from the Foundation's Rural Philanthropy Fund. The charge was led by members of the town council, township government, and the local school system to build a fund to support projects for the local community. The endowment makes grants annually to support projects in Liberty Township, Perry Township, or the Town of Selma that are reviewed and recommended to The Community Foundation board by a committee of dedicated local residents.  Applications are accepted annually on May 1.

The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. is a publicly supported philanthropic institution governed by a volunteer board of local citizens.  The Foundation manages contributions donated by individuals, businesses and corporations as a permanent community endowment.  Distributions from these funds are given back to the community in the form of grants to nonprofit organizations and agencies.  To date, over $47 million has been awarded to enrich the lives of the residents of Muncie and Delaware County.
