Nine Hoosier Cultural Programming Providers to Receive NEA grants

The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) announced today that nine Indiana arts organizations and cultural programming providers will receive nearly $1 million in grants from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). The NEA will be awarding more than $80 million nationwide during this second round of grants supporting 1,114 projects.

“The federal investment of public funding of projects and services from these cultural program providers support more than just specific events,” said IAC Executive Director Lewis C. Ricci. “These grants mean jobs for artists and other creative sector employees, while providing unique cultural experiences for Hoosiers of all ages throughout our state.”

Grants to Indiana include:

Indiana Arts Commission, Indianapolis, IN / $774,700
This Partnership grant reflects the annual federal appropriation to the IAC to support state and regional services

American Folklore Society, Bloomington, IN / $30,000
This Art Works – Folk & Traditional Arts grant will support the Society’s Consultancy and Professional Development Program

City of Jasper (Jasper Community Arts), Jasper, IN / $10,000
This Art Works – Local Arts Agencies grant will support design consulting fees and related staff costs for accessibility improvement plans at the Jasper Arts Center

City of South Bend (Venues Parks & Arts Department), South Bend, IN / $125,000
This Our Town – Design grant will support artist-led community design workshops, and the fabrication and installation of interactive lighting sculpture along the banks for the St. Joseph River in South Bend

DePauw University, Greencastle, IN / $10,000
This Art Works – Music grant will help fund an artist residency

Eiteljorg Museum of American Indian and Western Art, Inc. Indianapolis, IN / $10,000
This Art Works – Folk & Traditional Arts grant will support presentation and workshops of Native American dance, music, and storytelling in conjunction with the Indian Market and Festival

Embassy Theatre Foundation, Inc., Fort Wayne, IN / $10,000
This Art Works – Musical Theatre grant will support SCORE!, an intensive musical theater training program for middle school students

Great American Songbook Foundation, Inc., Carmel, IN / $10,000
This Art Works – Music grant will support the digitization of audiovisual materials from the Meredith Wilson Collection for access online at Indiana University

New Harmony Project (The Project), Indianapolis, IN / $20,000
This Art Works – Theater grant will support the annual spring conference, which gathers writers and artists in New Harmony, Indiana, for a two-week new play development project

Second round NEA grants to Indiana organizations total $999,700.

"Reflecting the diverse artistic richness of our nation, these Arts Endowment-funded projects are varied in their size, scope, and artistic discipline," said NEA acting Chairman Mary Anne Carter. "The projects also illustrate the unique geographic reach of Arts Endowment funding, serving Americans in places large and small in all corners of the country."
