Healthcare Foundation of La Porte Hosting Safe Sleep Kickoff Event

In advance of October’s Safe Sleep Month, the Partners for Healthier Babies Council, in collaboration with local healthcare providers, agencies, and government offices that touch parents and babies, is teaming up to raise awareness among parents and caregivers about how to reduce the risk of infant death.  

Recommendations to parents and caregivers on Safe Sleep have been revised by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). The updates ensure that parents and caregivers have the latest information about evidence-based risk-reduction strategies. 

Our Kick-Off Event will go in depth, covering:

  • Statistical comparisons between La Porte County, Indiana counties, the state of Indiana, and the U.S. 
  • ABCs of Safe Sleep  
  • SIDS vs SUID  
  • The launch of La Porte County’s Fetal Infant Mortality Review (FIMR), Grassroots Maternal Child Health Program (GMCH), and continuing of the Community Action Team (CAT) to support FIMR’s impact 
  • The launch of Diapering Together To Raise Awareness, a month-long diaper collection challenge for area parents
