‘Crowdgranting’ platform helping to transform Indiana neighborhoods
“CreatINg Places” is an exciting new funding program from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, in partnership with Patronicity. The program uses an innovative combination of crowdfunding and matching grant funds, known as “crowdgranting.”
Through CreatINg Places, local units of government and not-for-profits can apply to fund projects that activate underused or create new public spaces. When they apply, projects must set a crowdfunding goal for between $5,000 and $50,000; if they meet or exceed that goal in a set time period, they will receive a matching grant from IHCDA for the same amount as their crowdfunding goal. This provides a fantastic new opportunity for community leaders to engage their residents, and for residents to have a voice in the place-based projects that are proposed in their neighborhoods.
