Community Foundation of Boone County Serving As Local Leader in COVID-19 Efforts
With the recent escalation of COVID-19, Boone County residents are pooling together looking for ways to help. The Community Foundation of Boone County (CFBC) is positioned to bring people together to support the nonprofits who are working daily to address the needs as they arise and continue to change. They are actively connecting with nonprofit organizations who have launched new programming to see how they can best help them and how their needs are changing. Examples of these new programs are grocery delivery for cancer patients, grocery pickup for elderly and those in need, transportation across Boone County, and offering free meals to children and families—both boxed and warm, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
On March 12, 2020, CFBC announced the creation of the Community Foundation of Boone County COVID-19 Fund. This fund was created to ensure that people have a place to financially donate and be assured that 100% of the gifts will be granted to address Boone County needs as they continue to change daily during this time.
Thanks to donors and funds at CFBC, they have already awarded out $30,000 in unrestricted grants to seven nonprofit organizations, to assist them in their new programs:
- Boone County Health Department
- Boone County Senior Services, Inc.
- Boys & Girls Club of Boone County, Love Inc.
- Shalom House
- The ARC of Greater Boone County
- The Caring Center
While this funding helped to launch new and expand current programs, the nonprofits need more support to ensure the programs can continue to help people in need. CFBC encourages people to either donate directly to a nonprofit or to the CFBC COVID-19 Response Fund. Links to the donation portals can be found on their website: www.communityfoundationbc.org.
