Back to Basics: Why Basic Civics Impacts Outcomes

Hear from a team of Indiana leaders as they discuss the importance of civic participation and share examples of how funders and corporations can engage in civic efforts. Chuck Dunlap, Executive Director of the Indiana Bar Foundation and co-author of the 2019 Indiana Civic Health Index, will review the report’s findings and recommendations and discuss how they relate to the work of Indiana philanthropy. Sheila Kennedy, professor of law & public policy, will explore how civic literacy relates to all avenues for service and community development. Bill Moreau is the co-author of the Indiana Civic Health Index and founder of the Indiana Citizen Education Foundation. He will describe the ways his foundation is striving to increase civic engagement and voting in Indiana. Tim Kalgreen, director of civic education at the Indiana Bar Foundation, will share about “We the People,” a school-based educational program that integrates civics in Indiana elementary, middle, and high schools.
