Simon Youth Foundation Launches Application Period for National Scholarship Program

Tuesday, September 10, 2019

Simon Youth Foundation (SYF), a national nonprofit committed to helping students graduate, is pleased to announce that the application period for its nationally competitive scholarship program is now open.

Each year, Simon Youth Community Scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors who live in a Simon mall community. Scholarship recipients are eligible for a one-time $1,500 scholarship, which may be applied to tuition at an accredited college, university, vocational or technical school. Students who will be graduating high school in 2020 and live in a community surrounding a Simon mall, Mills or Premium Outlet are eligible. In addition, top-ranking candidates in select cities will receive an Award of Excellence, which is a renewable scholarship valued at $10,000 and awarded to one student in eligible Simon regions.

Simon Youth Foundation also awards scholarships to students graduating from its 37 nationwide Simon Youth Academies, dropout recovery academies operated in partnership with local public school districts. SYF sees students who struggle to succeed in a traditional classroom for who they really are – a girl working two jobs to support her family, a boy surviving homelessness. SYF understands that their circumstances require a different kind of learning so they building educational spaces right for them.

“At Simon Youth Foundation, we are committed to helping students graduate high school and pursue their dreams through education,” said Dr. J. Michael Durnil, President and CEO, Simon Youth Foundation. “We strongly believe that cost should not prevent students from furthering their education, and we strive to help eliminate this financial burden through our scholarship programs.”

Each year, SYF’s scholarships support hundreds of college-bound students. In 2019, SYF awarded more than $1.6 million in scholarships to 407 students from 38 states and Puerto Rico. Over 20 years, SYF has awarded more than $18 million in post-secondary scholarships to 5,000 students.

SYF’s 2020 scholarship recipients will be selected by International Scholarship and Tuition Services (ISTS), a third-party partner. Applicants will be evaluated based on academic promise, financial need, written response, work experience as well as community and extracurricular involvement.
The Simon Youth Scholarship application period will remain open from September 1, 2019 through February 19, 2020. For more information, to confirm eligibility and apply for a Simon Youth Community Scholarship, please visit syf.org/scholarships/.
